About the Program

NEW! Upcoming Events

The Adopt-a-Highway program, developed in 1996, complements and adds to the existing Annual Spring Roadside Clean-Up. These programs are joint efforts of the New Brunswick Department of Transportation, Maritime Road Development Corporation, Brun-way, The Canadian Forestry Association of New Brunswick (CFANB) and groups of volunteers who work together to keep our provincial roadsides clean and beautiful.

The roles of the participants are:
  • The Department of Transportation, the Maritime Road Development Corporation and Brun-way provides garbage bags and installs the signs for Adopt-a-Highway.
  • CFANB co-ordinates all the volunteer groups and individuals, and also arranges for the pick-up of the filled bags.
  • The volunteers organize the activity in their selected area and carry out the actual clean-up.

What's new and different about Adopt-a-Highway?

Under this program groups can now select and look after their "adopted" section of highway, and are given recognition on special signs erected by the Department of Transportation.
