Safety

...is paramount.

The sponsoring group must provide supervision: at least one adult for every eight (8) participants between the ages of 12 and 18. For safety reasons, individuals under the age of 12 are not allowed at the work site.

The Department of Transportation provides temporary warning signs to caution traffic of the presence of work crews. The sponsor is responsible for erecting the temporary warning signs and making sure they are within one kilometer of work crews at all times.

Each participant is also supplied with a copy of the pamplet, "Safety Guidelines for Volunteers, Adopt-a-Highway Program", and a highly visible official "Adopt-a-Highway" cap.
